Are Slow Burns Dead?

Is there some kind of epidemic going around that only affects the demographic of young adults aged 18-22?

Why does there seem to be an influx of jumping to I-love-you's, out-of-town trips, multiple 20-slide posts on Instagram captioned with paragraphs and paragraphs about how much someone "loves" another person not even a full month into the relationship?

Something I can't stand to see the most is people who move way too quickly when real emotions should be involved. Especially in the age of the internet. In 2026, it feels like everything we do is for the entertainment of others. Everything is a performance, even the most private and intimate parts of our lives, i.e. our relationships.

Whatever happened to getting to really know the people we are interested in and keeping it private?

If I had a dollar for each time a guy told me he "loved" me before the one-month mark, I'd have about 5 bucks. Now, I'm not typically one to put a clock on love but come on. Do you know that I like to eat my burgers bun and then the patty?  Or that my dream is to be a journalist for CNN? Hell, do you even know my middle name, or what my favorite ice cream flavor is?

How can you love me without knowing a single thing about me? How can you love me without even being curious enough about me to ask?

For all of these reasons, a nice, quiet slow burn is all I'm looking for in my future relationships. Every guy my age is seemingly so obsessed with the end goal of a relationship without even working to get there; they want the closeness and intimacy without actually getting close to their partners.

The saying goes, "to be loved is to be known," NOT, "to be loved is to be posted."

Nothing is more romantic than a soft, slow, peaceful love. A love that exists for strictly both parties involved. A month in, we aren't sharing empty I-love-you's and reposting corny TikToks about each other's physical attributes. Instead, we're asking deep questions and having the difficult conversations. We're learning each other's quirks and eccentricities, boundaries; we're becoming best friends.

We all deserve a true connection, not a charade of a relationship for the appeasement of our followers.

I Will Be Romanticizing My Life This School Year

Classes start again in exactly two weeks, and I almost started to complain. But I realized this is an opportunity. I can finally stop laying on my laurels like I have been all summer and actually accomplish things. Last year, I let myself get lazy--that will never happen again. I will be an academic weapon. I will attend every class, I will wake up early, I will only wear my cutest outfits, my hair will always be done. It is time to be the best version of myself. Any recreation outside of academics will be a privilege. I will only reward myself with parties, movie nights, and hangouts after all of my homework is complete. I will attract only the best people. I will make good, lifelong friends.

Sophomore year will be different; I know what I'm doing this time. This will be the year of growth and exploration. I will learn something new about myself this year. It is time to truly "lock in," as the kids say.

Even now, I am worried because I procrastinated on my Japanese summer homework that is due on the first day of classes. Of course, I did work on it throughout summer but, was it enough to be in a good spot two weeks before classes start? No.

But this will be the last time I procrastinate. Procrastination has always been such a bad habit of mine. I think I need to force myself out of that habit once and for all.

I honestly can't wait for my first day back. I love living the uni life-- going to cafes, reading interesting books, writing essays, enjoying campus scenery, people watching. If I could just rid of myself of my bad academic habits, life as a college student would be truly perfect.

That is exactly my plan...

4 Goals before classes start:

  1. Finish my Japanese work this week
  2. Get all of my dorm decor and necessities
  3. Get some new cute outfits
  4. Get my hair done
I am so excited!

I Have Powers and They Scare Me

My powers have become too strong for my own good. It's really like anything I want, I get it. It was cool and quirky at first, but it has become too accurate and too consistent. Even ask my best friend, she can vouch for this.

This is not a complaint, though. I mean, maybe a little because it does kind of freak me out. But, overall, it's really effing cool.

No really, it's so crazy. Like, I will literally say I want something, or I'll predict something, and it will actually happen in real life.

For example, at the beginning of summer, I predicted that Katseye will perform at this year's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, and guess what? It got announced like a month later that they were.

That's a milder example compared to the other things I bring to life, but you get the point.

I'm literally magic.

What if my powers get too strong and I can't control them? Maybe I can use them to my benefit....

Right now, I will speak out into the universe that I will receive a new super cute pastel pink coat for the fall/winter.

Now we wait...

I Just Had Such an Amazing Dream

The dream I just woke up from was nothing short of blissful.

The person that I lost contact with and I finally reunited. He looked so beautiful, like an angel. Everything just slowed down. We shared this knowing look that told me everything was finally the way it was supposed to be--that the storm has finally passed. It told me that I am finally getting everything I have been wishing for.

I almost feel like this dream was a small gift from the Universe for always trusting its process.

Maybe it was a glimpse into the future...?

Only time will tell, but I can't wait to see. ♡
